2026 Temple Israel attack
2026 Temple Israel attack
On March 12, 2026, another heinous antisemitic terrorist attack rooted in radical Islamic extremism struck Temple Israel, one of America's largest Reform synagogues, in West Bloomfield Township, Michigan.[1] The Arab assailant, 41-year-old Ayman Mohamad Ghazali—a Lebanese immigrant who, presumably, exploited weak Obama-era immigration vetting to gain U.S. citizenship—deliberately plowed his truck into the Temple's entrance, then stormed inside firing a rifle, all while laden with explosives aimed at slaughtering the innocent.[2] It was confirmed as a premeditated antisemitic assault targeting the Jewish community, underscoring the persistent threat from Islamist hatred.[3] It 'could have looked a lot more like Sandy Hook.' The Islamofascist was "targeting babies who are Jewish.[4]
Heroic armed security guards, embodying the wisdom of Second Amendment protections, swiftly confronted and eliminated the terrorist in a righteous shootout. His vehicle burst into flames from the volatile jihadist payload, inflicting smoke damage that led to treatment for about 30 brave first responders. One security director was hit by the truck but is expected to make a full recovery, a testament to preparedness against such barbaric threats.[5]
Miraculously, no congregants or the 140–170 children in the on-site preschool were harmed, spared by divine providence and the rapid lockdown—highlighting how liberal gun-control agendas could have left them defenseless.[6]
A search of the vehicle uncovered a rifle, high-explosives, a toxic chemical agent, and mortar rounds, revealing the depths of this Islamist plot. The FBI, ATF, and bomb experts were deployed to dismantle the arsenal, exposing yet another failure of border security under progressive policies.[7][8]
This atrocity serves as a stark reminder of the dangers posed by unchecked radical Islam and antisemitism, demonizing and inciting rhetoric like 'globaluze the intifada' with gratitude owed to vigilant security for averting a massacre that lax immigration invited.
Metro Detroit, Dearborn has the largest Arab Muslim immigrant / children of M.E. immigrants, in the US. Pro jihadi Hamas/Hezbollah sympathies prevalent there.

Background
Temple Israel is one of the largest Reform congregations in the United States, with thousands of members and extensive educational programming including a preschool and youth programs.[9] Jewish organizations have reported an increase in antisemitic incidents in the United States in recent years. The anti-hate organization Anti-Defamation League reported that 2024 saw the highest number of recorded antisemitic incidents since the organization began tracking them in 1979.[10]
Attack
The attack occurred at approximately 12:19 p.m. EDT on March 12, 2026. Ghazali drove a truck into the Temple’s front entrance before exiting the vehicle and opening fire with a rifle.[2] Armed security personnel at the synagogue responded and exchanged gunfire with the attacker. Ghazali was fatally shot at the scene.[1] Following the shooting, the truck caught fire. Emergency responders extinguished the blaze while bomb disposal units examined the vehicle after explosives-related materials were discovered inside.[11] Law enforcement agencies issued temporary shelter-in-place warnings for nearby residents and schools while the situation was being secured.[12]
Perpetrator
The antisemitic attacker was identified as Ayman Mohamad Ghazali (January 4, 1985 – March 12, 2026). He was born in Lebanon and later immigrated to the United States, becoming a naturalized citizen.[13]
Authorities were still examining 'motivations' including Islamist ideological factors, and international events. Early reports indicated that members of Ghazali’s extended family had alleged ties to Hezbollah terror movement.[14] A proxy of Islamic fascist Republic of Iran.
He had been questioned on the Hezbollah matter on a number of occasions upon his return from overseas trips.[15]
Aftermath
Following the attack, police departments in several U.S. cities increased patrols around synagogues and other religious institutions.[16] Federal authorities, including the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, opened an investigation into the incident. Officials said the case was being examined as a possible act of terrorism.[17]
Cold. Calculated. Evil
1. The Islamist fascist, two days ealier, bought $2000[18] worth of fireworks at Phantom Fireworks in Michigan. "Ayman Ghazali was asked what it was for because it’s an unusual time of year to buy so many fireworks. He told the store it was for the end of Ramadan."[19]
2. "Ghazali waited inside his gray Ford F-150 truck at the West Bloomfield Township synagogue for more than two hours before driving through Door 5 in the southeast corner of the building, causing a fire at the" Temple.[20]
Reactions
The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) joined the probe, confirming the discovery of explosives in the vehicle, which bomb technicians and K-9 units examined. Officials have classified the incident as terrorism, linked to anti-Israel extremism.
Reactions
Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer issued a statement condemning antisemitism and violence, though critics noted her administration's soft stance on related issues. State Senator Mallory McMorrow urged residents to heed first responders and highlighted the tangible rise in antisemitism, transcending partisan lines.
President Donald Trump, who has been a staunch defender of Israel and advocate for strong borders, was immediately briefed on the situation. His administration's policies, including enhanced vetting for immigrants, are credited by supporters with mitigating worse threats.
Jewish organizations and community leaders condemned the attack and warned about rising antisemitic rhetoric.[21]
It was reminded how 'globalize the intifada incitement is so dangerous.
Statements described the incident as a targeted act of violence against the Jewish community. State and local officials also condemned the attack and praised the actions of synagogue security personnel whose response prevented further casualties.[22]

Dr. Maalouf reported on X that "Almost everyone in the comment section of the official Dearborn Instagram page is defending the Hezbollah-affiliated Michigan synagogue terrorist", describing the situation as "Shocking but not surprising" and stating "America has imported monsters". The post included a video screenshot or compilation of such comments.[24]
The Arab Lebanese-American mayor of Dearborn Heights, Mo Baydoun, drew backlash over response to Michigan synagogue attack.
“A conflict halfway around the world is somehow a rationale for trying to blow up a synagogue full of children,” the Republican Jewish Coalition stated.[25]
R' Poupko slammed the mayor by noting that "Tens of thousands of Jews have lost relatives that were murdered by Gazans on October 7th" yet "Not one of us decided to ram a car full of deadly explosives into a US Mosque". He added that if a Jew committed such an act, "that would be morally inexcusable and all Jews would rightfully condemn it", and called for the Mayor of Dearborn to "apologize to the Jewish community for his reprehensible, abhorrent, and immoral justification of violence". The post quoted a Wall Street Journal report on the attacker's family losses and included an image.[26]

On X, this “independence” usually translates to anti-Israel and anti-American reporting. However, when it comes to the protests in Iran, both news sources seem to have swapped their “independence” for “acquiescence,” mainly reporting on the protests from a regime perspective. For its part, Drop Site News’ coverage feigns objectivity by reporting on the protests and what drives the protesters, but a closer look shows that it heavily relies on statements and messages put out by the Iranian regime. It took several days for Drop Site News to report anything about the protests, and when it did, it blamed the state of the Iranian economy largely on U.S. sanctions (as opposed to mismanagement, corruption, and wasteful spending that characterize the Iranian regime’s financial policy). Since then, Drop Site’s coverage largely features statements by official Iranian sources (such as state media, ruling politicians, etc.), creates a moral equivalence between the killing of demonstrators by the state apparatus and the killing of security forces, spotlighting pro-regime demonstrations, and casting doubt on the number of protesters killed by the repressive regime. A man armed with a rifle rammed a vehicle into the nation’s largest Reform synagogue, in a Detroit suburb, and was fatally shot by security. The vehicle caught on fire after crashing into the Temple Israel synagogue in West Bloomfield Township.
Investigators were still working to identify the man and a possible motive for the attack.
Oakland County Sheriff Sheriff Mike Bouchard confirmed during an earlier news conference that security at the synagogue had engaged in gunfire with at least one person, and that no one was in custody.
WDIV-TV reported that a truck had crashed into the synagogue. Smoke could be seen billowing from the synagogue’s roof. Footage from the scene shows dozens of police vehicles surrounding the building.
FBI Director Kash Patel said agents were on scene of an “apparent vehicle ramming and active shooter situation” at the synagogue.
The Oakland County Sheriff’s office said authorities are clearing the building. About a dozen parents sprinted to get their children from an early childhood learning center inside the building after getting approval from police. West Bloomfield School District went on lockdown.
Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer issued a statement saying she was tracking developments.
“This is heartbreaking,” the governor said. “Michigan’s Jewish community should be able to live and practice their faith in peace.”
Temple Israel calls itself the nation’s largest Reform synagogue, with 12,000 members, according to its website. It has an early childhood education center and offers educational programs for families and adults.
The Jewish Federation of Detroit advised all Jewish organizations in the area “to go into lockout protocol — nobody in or out of your building.” YWN

Gov. Whitmer condemns antisemitism, calls for everyone to 'turn down the rhetoric' in wake of Temple Israel attack.
By WWJ Newsroom, WWJ Newsradio 950. WWJ Newsradio 950. March 13, 2026.
WEST BLOOMFIELD (WWJ) -- Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer is speaking out the day following an attack at Temple Israel in West Bloomfield, the largest reform synagogue in the country.
At a news conference Friday morning, alongside Temple Israel leadership, Whitmer thanked the private security, first responders, and law enforcement officers who kept everyone safe.
"These heroes threw themselves in harm's way engaging the suspect," Whitmer said. "And, let's be very clear: Yes, this is a place of worship, but at the time this attack occurred, it was a school."
Whitmer said Michigander need to come together, and keep each other close at this time. "This community is on the edge, very understandably," she said. "We've seen a rise in attacks, especially over the last decade, especially over the last ten months. And so it is important for us to stand up, and stand against it."
On Thursday, 41-year-old Ayman Mohamad Ghazali, a naturalized U.S. citizen born in Lebanon, rammed his truck into the building, on Walnut Lake Rd., where a preschool and daycare was in session.
Ghazali was fatally shot by security, a fire broke out, but kids or staff in the early childhood center we injured.
"I want Michigan's Jewish community to know that we are with you," Whitmer said. "Violence in our houses of worship, and in our schools, and our daycare centers like this hits especially hard."
"Yesterday's attack was antisemitism, it was hate, plain and simple," Whitmer said. "We will fight this ancient and rampant evil. We will stand together, and we will call it out. We must lower the rhetoric, in this state and in this country, especially in this moment."
WWJ Newsradio 950's Charlie Langton asked Whitmer if she thinks this happened because of the war in Iran.
"Putting my theories into the press is not going to help an investigation, so I'm going to refrain from that," Whitmer said. "I do know that we have seen a rise in antisemitism, we have seen it over many years, predating the conflict."
"But certainly, it is at a historic high," the governor added, "and I worry that that will continue. And that's why I'm calling on anyone with a platform to be very responsible with their rhetoric; not to identify or target the Jewish community. That is antisemitism writ large, and I don't any of us should permit or allow that to stand.
"And that's why I'm asking people to turn down the rhetoric."
Given the diversity of Metro Detroit — home to hundreds of thousands of people of Middle Eastern decent — Whitmer was asked what message she could share to help lower the temperature.
"I am trying to deliver that message right now: That we are Michiganders, this was a school. These are zero to 5-year-olds that were targeted yesterday," the governor said.
While no children or teachers were hurt, Whitmer noted that this could have gone a different way, looking "a lot more like Sandy Hook."
Whitmer was referencing a tragic 2012 mass shooting in Newtown, Connecticut, where 26 people — including 20 first-graders and six educators — were killed.
"Let's not lose sight of that," the governor said. "This is not a political moment; this is not a political debate. This is targeting babies who are Jewish! That's antisemitism at its absolute worst. And that's why we cannot lose sight of that — the importance of keeping everyone in Michigan safe by being responsible in how we talk about issues and how we treat one another."
FBI, state and local law enforcement have said the investigation into the attack is ongoing. Audacy
