Joe Biden (born November 20, 1942) turned 81 in November 2023. He was nearly 78 years old on Election Day 2020. Biden hasn't disclosed his medical history since 2008, when physicians found he had an irregular heartbeat. Biden has long been troubled by health issues. Biden has promised to release his medical records in the next several months.

According to the British Medical Journal, "The brain’s capacity for memory, reasoning and comprehension skills (cognitive function) can start to deteriorate from age 45, finds research published on bmj.com today."

Matthew Walther, a national correspondent for The Week, wrote about Biden's age:

The columnist Michael Goodwin wrote about Biden's performance during the Democrats’ third presidential primary debate: "Nearly all his efforts to make a point were swamped by a sudden change of direction mid-sentence, and then another change a few words later as a random thought popped into his head and out his mouth. None of his rivals needed to interrupt him — he did it to himself."

After Biden's poor performance in Iowa, a Democratic county chair told The New York Times, "He’s pressing against Father Time, who is a very tough competitor."

Biden's age and voters

Nate Silver of FiveThirtyEight wrote about Bidens's age:

A lot of rank-and-file voters do have concerns about Biden’s age. An NBC News/Wall Street Journal poll in February found that 62 percent of voters had reservations about voting for someone aged 75 or older. Other polls have also shown advanced age to be a concern among Democrats, Republicans and independents alike.

Democratic primary voters tend to skew both older and more moderate and these voters have been telling pollsters in the primary race that they value experience.

Joe Biden's response to voter concerns about his age

Biden says about voter's concerns about his age: “I say if they’re concerned, don’t vote for me”.

In 2018, Joe Biden told CBS News about voter's concerns about his age: "I think [voters are] gonna judge me on my vitality. Can I still run up the steps of Air Force Two? Am I still in good shape? Do I have all my faculties? Am I energetic? I think it's totally legitimate people ask those questions."

Biden told reporters when he could not recall exactly where he spoke on a recent college campus event, "I want to be clear, I’m not going nuts."

Biden's main message to voters is his claim that he is the most electable cadidate running for president in 2020. In addition, Biden argues that his experience gives him insights on how politics can be more civil and more productive.

Mental decline

Biden apparently has dementia, with symptoms like forgetting how many grandchildren he has, thinking that he is running for the Senate, not the US presidency, forgetting that he is running against President Trump, not George Bush, getting his wife confused with his sister, and even forgetting where he is. Critics of Biden have derided what they describe as clownish and buffoonish behavior by him in the public eye over the years and have attributed that behavior, which likely predates his selection by Barack Obama to be his running mate, to his advancing senility and dementia. Despite all of these symptoms, many Democrats deny Biden's erratic behavior and are content with someone mentally unfit to be President of the United States, while more aggressive apologists make excuses and attack critics by accusing them of "ageism" and "ignorance".

Biden blew his nose and snot clung to his chin. When informed by staff 8 minutes later, Biden ate the booger off his chin.

Biden has had two brain surgeries, and his speech is occasionally slurred in pronouncing common words. In addition to his socialist views Biden has had a subarachnoid hemorrhage, which likewise is known to cause permanent brain damage. During a CNN town hall on 17 February 2021 Biden claimed that he didn't have the COVID Vaccine when he took office. He didn't remember that he himself took the vaccine on 21 December 2020, one month before occupying the office.

After his occupying the White House, he forgot the name of his Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin, calling Kamala Harris president, forgetting what he is doing in Texas. talk that he is coming to Senate 120 years ago. Biden made history as the first Oval Office occupant in over 100 years to not hold a press conference in his first 65 days in office. When twice asked by reporters if he was ready the day before the big event, Biden responded, "What press conference?" One purpose of presidential press conferences is so the public can see and judge for themselves a president's mental acuity. When the press conference finally was held, it was a disaster for Biden as he stumbled and mumbled his way through, ready prepared notes to answer serious policy questions and losing this train of thought.

Six weeks after the seizure of power, a Rasmussen Poll of likely voters showed 50% said they were not confident that “Joe Biden is physically and mentally up to the job of being president of the United States.” Shortly thereafter Biden fell three times attempting to board Air Force One. White House internal propagandists tried to explain away the incident as the wind blowing Biden over. Not one day earlier Biden referred to Kamala Harris, "President Harris." Former White House physician for Presidents George W. Bush, Barack Obama and Donald Trump, Dr. Ronnie Jackson tweeted, "I served as White House physician under THREE Presidents. I’ve seen what it takes physically AND mentally to do the job. I can tell you right now that the way Biden is hiding from the public is a MAJOR red flag. Something’s not right."

Biden's public performance at the G-7 summit at Cornwall, England in June 2021 with the entire planet looking on was universally panned as demented. Even other heads of government could only laugh in front of the cameras as Biden wandered off aimlessly or forgot what he had been told 30 seconds earlier. His closing press conference in front of the fawning liberal media devolved into rambling gibberish.

While preparing for a video conference with the nation's governors on wildfires, Biden was informed by aides of having a booger on his chin, and proceeded to eat it on camera. Reports say Biden's erratic conduct has caused staffers to nickname him, the Nightmare on Elm Street.

In Feb 2024, Biden was 'torched' online after he claimed that he met with Francois Mitterrand, the former president of France who passed away roughly 30 years ago.

Disorientation

On August 20, 2021 Biden claimed the U.S. went to Afghanistan to destroy al Qaeda, and had done so. Less than an hour later, a Pentagon spokesman contradicted him and said al Qaeda still existed in Afghanistan. His assurance that the Taliban promised people with U.S. passports were being cleared through Taliban checkpoints was immediately contradicted by the State Department. Biden said, ""I have seen no question of our credibility from our allies around the world. I've spoken with our NATO allies, we've spoken with NATO allies. ... The fact of the matter is, I have not seen that. As a matter of fact, the exact opposite I've got." In the real world, the European Parliament Committee on Foreign Affairs held a virtual session and Josep Borrell, high representative of the EU for foreign affairs and security policy and vice president of the European Commission, branded the situation in Afghanistan "a catastrophe." Former UK prime minister Theresa May said "What does it say about NATO if we are entirely dependent on a unilateral decision taken by the United States? ... Did we feel we just had to follow the United States and hope that on a wing and a prayer it'd be all right on the night?" Former UK prime minister Tony Blair called Biden an "imbecile." Armin Laschet, the top candidate to succeed outgoing German Chancellor Angela Merkel, said, "This is the greatest debacle that NATO has seen since its foundation, and it is an epochal change that we are facing." And the UK Houses of Parliament held Biden in contempt.

Democrats publicly talking about Biden's age

Politico had this to say about Democrats' thoughts about Biden's age:

But Democrats are beginning to publicly talk about it themselves. While sparring over the details of health-care policy, Castro repeatedly claimed that Biden had forgotten what he said only two minutes earlier. You can read the transcript here, but the subtext seemed clear]: Castro was suggesting that Biden, in his old age, had become more forgetful and less mentally present. In my view, Castro came off as overly aggressive.

White House hopeful Julián Castro defended his attack on Joe Biden in the latest Democratic debate, insisting he was not targeting the former vice president's age during a feisty exchange on health care. “I wasn’t taking a shot at his age, I was taking a shot at the fact that he had just said the words ‘buy in,’ you would have to ‘buy in,’ ” Castro, the former Housing and Urban Development secretary, said on ABC News in a post-debate interview. The former Obama Cabinet member defended his tactics in the debate when he accused Biden of forgetting details of his health care plan and whether it would require a buy-in. Castro also claimed Biden was not carrying on Obama's legacy. The line of attack quickly provoked reactions among other Democratic presidential candidates, with Sen. Amy Klobuchar (D-Minn.) saying that Castro's remark about Biden's memory was "not cool" and "so personal and so unnecessary.” Meanwhile, Sen. Cory Booker (D-N.J.) seemed to back up Castro, saying the former San Antonio mayor had some "legitimate concerns" about Biden. “I think there were a lot of moments where a number of us were looking on stage where he tends to go on sometimes,” Booker said on CNN after the debate. “There are definitely moments where you listen to Joe Biden and you just wonder.”

Nuclear codes

Four weeks into the junta, Politico reported that nearly three dozen House Democrats called on Biden to relinquish his sole authority to launch nuclear weapon.

With advanced age Biden has become increasingly unbalanced.

“...Vesting one person with this authority entails real risks...Past presidents have threatened to attack other countries with nuclear weapons or exhibited behavior that caused other officials to express concern about the president’s judgment...While any president would presumably consult with advisors before ordering a nuclear attack, there is no requirement to do so...The military is obligated to carry out the order if they assess it is legal under the laws of war. Under the current posture of U.S. nuclear forces, that attack would happen in minutes.”

The effort was spearheaded by Democrat Reps. Jimmy Panetta and Ted Lieu after both international and national media questioned Biden's mental capacity and the threat it posed to national security. In late 2020, Speaker Nancy Pelosi introduced a bill creating a 25th Amendment Commission. The 25th Amendment reads in part, "Whenever the Vice President and a majority of either the principal officers of the executive departments or of such other body as Congress may by law provide...". Biden insiders began dumping on Kamala Harris in fear she would invoke the 25th Amendment as Biden's dementia became more obvious. When a Trafalgar poll revealed 58% of Americans had no confidence that Kamala Harris could assume the duties of president, a series of leaks trashing Harris emanated from the White House. In the wake of her disastrous photo-op in Guatemala, Mexico, and El Paso, staffers began to quit, citing that Kamala is impossible to work with. Politico reported that Kamala's office is "Not a healthy environment’: rife with dissent. There is dysfunction inside the VP’s office, aides and administration officials say. And it’s emanating from the top."

"Harris’ team is experiencing low morale, porous lines of communication and diminished trust among aides and senior officials....22 current and former vice presidential aides, administration officials and associates of Harris and Biden described a tense and at times dour office atmosphere. Aides ....created an insular environment where ideas are ignored or met with harsh dismissals and decisions are dragged out. Often, they said, she refuses to take responsibility for delicate issues and blames staffers for the negative results that ensue.... “It all starts at the top,” said one of the administration officials, who like others requested anonymity to be able to speak candidly about a sensitive matter. “People are thrown under the bus from the very top, there are short fuses and it’s an abusive environment,” said another person with direct knowledge of how Harris’ office is run. “It’s not a healthy environment and people often feel mistreated. It’s not a place where people feel supported but a place where people feel treated like s---.” The dysfunction in the VP’s ranks threatens to complicate the White House’s carefully crafted image as a place staffed by a close-knit group of professionals working in concert to advance the president’s agenda. It’s pronounced enough that members of the president’s own team have taken notice and are concerned about the way Harris’ staffers are treated....for some of the people who know Harris best, it’s become an all-too-familiar pattern for a politician who has churned through several iterations of staff on her rise and took office with a team almost entirely new to her. Just six months in, some of those aides in the Office of the Vice President said they are eyeing other employment opportunities. Others have left already. ...The morale level for current Harris staffers is “rough” and in many ways similar to the failed presidential campaign and her Senate office, according to the former Senate aide."

Aides describe Harris as unpredictable and at times demeaning to her staff. She often hung up on her aides, berated them when she didn’t think they were prepared enough for briefings, and had a reputation for churning through interns and lower-level staff. Some of her former staffers claimed to be suffering from a form of post-traumatic stress after Harris started her ascension to the White House. According to the Washington Free Beacon, “they sought therapy to ‘resolve trauma from the on-the-job abuse’ after Harris was selected as Biden’s running mate in 2020.” After an Axios hit piece on Kamala, the New York Post reported the knives were out for Kamala in the racist and misogynist Biden White House.

After Biden's disastrous performance in a nationally televised CNN townhall meeting, speculation was rife over Harris invoking the 25th Amendment.

Like Pres. Woodrow Wilson's 2nd wife Edith, Joe Biden's 2nd wife Jill carried on much of her spouse's official duties during the time of his incapacitation.

Biden's age and his propensity to make more gaffes later in the day

The allies, growing increasingly nervous about Biden's verbal flubs, have said it's an approach that's been suggested to campaign officials on the heels of the former vice president’s stumbles. Biden has a tendency to make the blunders late in the day, his allies say, particularly after a long swing on the road, like he had last week in Iowa. They say something needs to be done to give the candidate more down time as the campaign intensifies in the fall. "He needs to be a strong force on the campaign trail, but he also has to pace himself," said one ally who has talked to members of the campaign team and others in the broader Biden World about how to move forward... Biden’s age — he’ll be 77 in November — has been seen by some as a liability ever since he launched his campaign earlier this year. While he has been billed by those around him as the most electable Democrat to take on President Trump next year, some wonder if he has the zeal to compete. “A lot of people are nervous that he’s lost some of his mojo,” said one major Democratic donor. “They’re getting nervous about him going toe to toe with Trump. But the problem is, there doesn’t seem to be an alternative.”

Some people with memory problems have a condition called mild cognitive impairment (MCI). In MCI, people have more memory problems than normal for their age, but their symptoms do not interfere with their everyday lives."

They study did not determine whether men who watch a lot of pornography have smaller brains to start with or whether the volume of their brains has shrunk over time.

LiveScience.com reported on the Max Planck Institute for Human Development study:

In an editorial entitled The Almighty Calls For Biden, the Wall Street Journal editors wrote, "Mr. President, the Almighty is on the line...Not the Deity you invoked Friday night in your interview on ABC...The Big Guy appears to be sitting out this presidential race...We mean the closest thing to the Almighty in American politics: the Democratic-media establishment...They want you gone, sir, and the question is when you admit it and oblige".
