Anti-Trump U.S. Representative Anthony Gonzalez of Ohio

Anthony E. Gonzalez (born September 18, 1984) is an American politician and former American football wide receiver. A member of the Republican Party, he has served as the U.S. Representative for Ohio's 16th congressional district since 2019. In September 2021, Gonzalez announced that he would not seek reelection amid a primary challenge supported by Trump against him. Gonzalez was popular until he turned against Trump in 2021, as Gonzalez had been a star college football player at Ohio State, where he studied philosophy. He was drafted by the Indianapolis Colts in the first round of the 2007 NFL Draft. Following his sports career, he enrolled in graduate studies at Stanford University and earned a master's degree.

He voted to impeach President Donald Trump in January 2021, during the final days of Trump's term in office.[1]

The Ohio GOP subsequently voted to censure him.[2] Trump endorsed a primary challenger against him for 2022 and in mid-2021 held a rally in his state. Gonzalez subsequently pulled out of the race.[3]

Gonzalez voted in favor of the Farm Amnesty Bill.[4]
