Michael Clifton Burgess (born December 23, 1950 (age 75) currently serves as the Republican U.S. Representative for Texas' 26th congressional district, covering the majority of Denton County, to the northwest of Dallas. The 26th District was the former home of Dick Armey, whom Burgess replaced in a mild primary runoff upset (defeating Dick's son Scott); as the district is solidly Republican he has faced only minimal opposition since his initial election.
He is an OB/GYN by profession, and much of his legislation pertains to medical issues, written from a primarily conservative viewpoint.
In late July 2020, Burgess joined 71 House Republicans as well as all Democrats in voting to remove Civil War-era statues.[2] In May 2022, Burgess voted for passing $40 billion to Ukraine war.[3]
