Florida Freedom

Florida Freedom is a 30-second political ad released by the Newsom re-election campaign on June 29, 2022 for residents in Florida (although it would be quite strange for a governor of a state he is not representing to be released for broadcast there), intended to bring residents of the Sunshine State to California. The ad had a price of $105,000. The ad targets Florida governor Ron DeSantis and claims that freedom is under attack by Republican politicians like him, but it mentions issues not related to freedom, such as abortion.

Statistics from the United States Census Bureau showed that California has continued to lose residents to domestic migration, while Florida gained residents.

The ad was well-received by Democrats and left-leaning podcaster Brian Tyler Cohen. However, it was massively ridiculed by the right and even described by the California Globe as "cringeworthy". Representative Kat Cammack hammered the ad and said that Florida's governor is about "freedom, faith, and family".

There's a saying in politics that you never punch down, right? You only punch up. And if I was Governor Gavin Newsom, I would be desperate to. Over 60,000 Californians have gotten their Florida driver's licenses in the last three years. In Florida, we're about freedom and faith and family. And in California, it looks like high taxes, crack pipe distribution centers, homeless tent cities and apps that you can download in order to report feces on the sidewalk. It's no wonder that everyone is fleeing to the Sunshine State. Let me tell you, it's not because of the humidity that is 100%. Us women we don't appreciate that as you can see. — Kat Cammack
