The University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) is a public university located in Los Angeles, California.

History

Today, the University comprises more than 4,000 academic staff, including professors, and more than 25,000 students.[1] The school opened in 1919 under the auspices of the state of California, and conferred its first degrees in 1923.[2] By 1947, the University had founded both schools of both medicine and law. The university has played an important role in the history of academia in America - the first open heart surgery in the western United States was performed there, and ARPANET, an early precursor to the internet, had its first node at UCLA.[3]
