QUOTE: The debate, however, appeared to have been won decisively by the hawks following the regime's suicidal decision in late March 2007 not to promptly release 15 British sailors and marines it had captured on March 23, 2007.

"Suicidal" doesn't seem objective to me.

I wouldn't wish to give this article an anti-American spin, as I think is present to an extent in the Wikipedia version, but I think it's important to mention the circumstances before the revolution and the reasons for the embassy hostage incident. -Rafa

I think there should be a "proposed targets" Section possibly with diagrams potential causalty numbers etc.

This is an encyclopedia article, not a war strategy page. I don't think the invasion of Iran should be written up as fact before it has happened, or before any leaders have committed their countries to it. --Rafa 14:05, 16 March 2007 (EDT)

The April 2007 attack? Is there some piece of news I'm not aware of?

'The April 2007 attack on Iran was anything but a surprise. Websites and print media throughout the world, mostly of leftist orientation, trumpeted the imminent outbreak of war, with some even specifying that it would commence before dawn Iranian time on April 6, 2007. Wikipedia had reported as early as January 20, 2007 that the attack would come in April (quoting the Arab Times, which reported it on January 18), and that this month was chosen because British Prime Minister Tony Blair would be leaving office that summer, or even as early as May.'

I cut this. It seems to be referring to the hostage crisis, but it seems to refer to events that haven't happened. Wuh? Wikinterpreter

I think that this article could do with adding the first 6,000 years or so of Iranian history; If no one else knows much about it I'll do it myself but I could probably only do a kind of summary.

Sex changes

Wait a minute. Before we add too much about gays in Iran, we need to evaluate this bit of information [1]. Rob Smith 15:40, 25 September 2007 (EDT)

Iran has nukes?

Iran has nukes? Huh... Barikada 22:32, 17 January 2008 (EST)

1953 Iranian coup d'état

Shouldn't there be some mention of the the western lead overthrow of the democratically elected government of Iran, and its head of government Prime Minister Mohammad Mosaddegh on 19 August 1953, orchestrated by the intelligence agencies of the United Kingdom (under the name 'Operation Boot') and the United States (under the name TPAJAX Project)? Why leave this important event out? Thanks for your valuable time and consideration, ~~allornothing

What a mess. RobSFree Kyle! 00:06, 24 May 2021 (EDT)

The President of Iran, for example, basically has no power. The Speaker of the Majlis parliament has more power than the president. The Iranian president basically functions as a press secretary to the world, updating people on the status of negotiations between the real power centers in Iran - the Supreme Leader, the Revolutionary Council, and the parliament. Why American readers insist on hearing the word "president" attached to foreign leaders with limited, little, or no power (Russia and China again two other examples), I cannot understand, other than the brainwashing by the liberal media for generations. RobSFree Kyle! 00:24, 24 May 2021 (EDT)

Typical; we have a picture of Rouhani cause he holds the title of "president", but no picture of the real boss, the Supreme Leader for life Khamenei (note: not to be confused with Khomeini). RobSFree Kyle! 03:53, 24 May 2021 (EDT)

Iran was responsible for the Khobar Towers bombing and was found complicit in U.S. federal court with Al Qaeda in the 9/11 attacks. Not a word in this article about either. RobSFree Kyle! 00:36, 24 May 2021 (EDT)

Personally, I think some of the ==Foreign relations== and ==Relations with the U.S.== needs to be cut down and rotated out to the History of Iran page, and then be updated on more recent developments. RobSFree Kyle! 00:23, 27 May 2021 (EDT)

Sanctions

Since the escalation of economic sanctions beginning in 1979, apparently Iran has become deeply involved in cocaine smuggling from Latin America to Europe and the North America. See Project Cassandra. RobSThe Truth. Just Putin It Out There 09:48, December 5, 2024 (EST)

I understand what you're saying dear RobS.

But it doesn't have to be the cause. The money from sex trafficking and illegal trade is geared toward jihadi attacks - the unholy enterprise. Also, Iran has been using simple lowlife criminal hitmen to target Jews globally. We all know Iran's global inspiration. In any case, sanctions don't always work. It's supposed intend is to deter and not escalating to militarism. Reagan / Trump's doctrine is to negotiate from a position of strength. VS weak US post botched Biden's Afghanistan exit.Dianne3000 (talk) 10:15, December 5, 2024 (EST)

With sanctions, governments turn to other sources of revenue. Most people don't understand that global narcotics trafficking is controlled by governments.
This is another lesson from the 1930s - sanctions are not end-all-and-be-all for dealing with foreign policy troubles. RobSThe Truth. Just Putin It Out There 10:46, December 5, 2024 (EST)

According to one source, Iran sanctions have led to a boom in pistachio farming in California, which uses more water than Los Angeles County. RobSThe Truth. Just Putin It Out There 12:35, January 10, 2025 (EST)
