North Yorkshire
North Yorkshire is a county for the purposes of lieutenancy in northern England. It is England's largest county for the purposes of lieutenancy by land area, totalling about 3,341 square miles in extent; the population was 1,125,547 at the 2011 census.
North Yorkshire comprises most of the North Riding of the county Yorkshire, as well as a large but mainly rural part of the county's West Riding.
The largest city in the county is Middlesbrough, followed by York, for which the Yorkshire region is named, though both are administratively separate from the county government; the largest town to be administratively a part of the county is Harrogate, followed by Scarborough and then Northallerton, which is also the county town.
Noted for its scenery, which includes forests, moorlands, and the North Sea coast, about 40 percent of the county is included within various national parks, most notably the Yorkshire Dales and the North York Moors.
