Northallerton

Northallerton is a market town in the North Riding of Yorkshire, England. It is the namesake of the wapentake Allertonshire, which was a liberty of the Bishop of Durham until the 19th century. For many in northern Yorkshire, Northallerton has been the centre of local government for centuries; between 1889 and 1974, it was the administrative HQ for the North Riding County Council and it is currently the admin HQ for North Yorkshire Council, which was established as a unitary authority in 2023.

The town is located along the East Coast Mainline (ECML), the main Railway line running between London & Edinburgh and just north of Thirsk.
