North Yorkshire Council

North Yorkshire Council is a unitary authority whose council area covers part of Yorkshire in England. The largest local authority area of England by geographical area, it is a unitary authority formed in 2023, following the abolition of the two-tier, non-metropolitan North Yorkshire County Council and its eight non-metropolitan districts. It is not co-extensive with the North Riding of Yorkshire; it covers areas of the East and West Ridings as well, with some parts of the North Riding being under different council areas (for which, see). However, like the similarly named North Riding County Council (1889-1974), the North Yorkshire Council meets in Northallerton.

The North Yorkshire Council area is by far the largest constituent local authority area of the larger county for the purposes of lieutenancy North Yorkshire.
