The Charlotte Hornets are a professional basketball team based in Charlotte, North Carolina founded in 2004 as the Charlotte Bobcats.

The original Charlotte Hornets moved to New Orleans, Louisiana, as the New Orleans Hornets. However, in 2014 the New Orleans franchise renamed itself the Pelicans (after the Louisiana state bird) and return to the Charlotte franchise the right to the Hornet name along with all Hornet records during the New Orleans era.

The "Cats" play in the Southeast Division of the Eastern Conference of the NBA at the Charlotte Bobcats Arena, which was opened in 2005.
