Golden State Warriors
The Golden State Warriors are a National Basketball Association team based in San Francisco, California.
Originally founded as the Philadelphia Warriors in 1946 as a charter member of the Basketball Association of America (the predecessor to the NBA), they were best known as the team who drafted Wilt Chamberlain (who would score a record 100 points in a single game). The team relocated to San Francisco in 1962, adopting the name San Francisco Warriors before relocating to Oakland in 1971 and adopting their current name (they are the only major professional sports franchise to name its team after a state nickname). The team relocated to a new arena in San Francisco (Chase Center) in 2019, but elected to keep the Golden State name.
They have won 11 conference titles; 3 were in the Eastern Conference in 1947, 1948, and 1956, and 8 were in the Western Conference in 1964, 1967, 1975, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, and 2019. They have won seven of their 12 NBA Finals appearances, claiming victories in 1947, 1956, 1975, 2015, 2017, 2018 and 2022.
