On Thanksgiving Day in 1935, a couple, Brother and Sister Creighton, came to Maui with a mandate from God to create a Pentecostal Church. A year later, in 1936, the Full Gospel Church of Paia began. The church eventually grew, and when Sister Creighton passed away, Brother Creighton and his family moved back to the mainland United States, and gave the church to the Assemblies of God, with the name changing to "First Assembly of God."
+
King's Cathedral and Chapels was established in May 1980 when Dr. James Marocco and Pastor Colleen Marocco became the new Senior Pastors of what was then First Assembly of God Maui. Prior to becoming the official Senior Pastor on the first Sunday of May, Dr. Marocco prophesied that the size of the congregation would double from 100 congregants (originally 80 adults/youth + 20 children) to 200 congregants. That night, Dr. Morocco had cried out to the Lord, thinking he might have made a mistake in coming. But he continued to have faith in the Lord, and on the first Sunday of May, the first Sunday with Dr. Marocco as the official pastor, the congregation doubled. Because of the massive growth King's experienced, they immediately began renovations.  The Chapel on Kane Street could then accommodate 200 people, then 300 people, then over 500 people with the addition of a two-story educational facility (and the buildings are still there today on Kane Street).

−
In 1960, the building was sold and became Doris Todd Memorial School. The congregation moved to central Maui, becoming a part of the Kahului Assembly of God, which began a year before. The church had constructed a new building on Kane Street with handmade bricks, taking the sign from their church in Paia and placing it in front of their new church.
+
In the next year (1980-1981), King’s Cathedral and Chapels was recognized by a national church growth organization as the fastest growing church in the United States. At the end of their first year, they had 700 active congregants.  A month after their one year anniversary, they had 1,100 active congregants. They then purchased and began to hold services in what was then the Maui Skate Palace, the largest facility on the island of Maui, which was also then the home of Family Life Center, the social services arm of King’s Cathedral and Chape. After the watchnight service, the church walked from the original chapel on Kane Street in a candlelight procession to the new facility. Due to the financial situation of King's at the time, the church began to influence the areas of business and recreation, founding the Christmas Tree Lot and operating a racquetball club and spa, the only ones on the island at the time.

−
In 1980, Dr. James Marocco and his wife, Pastor Colleen, became the new pastors of First Assembly of God. Some of his first actions as pastor were to order a new sign, paint the building, and expand the size of the church to accommodate 250 people instead of the 150 people it once held.
+
In 1983, Dr. Morocco was led by the Lord to Tommy Barnett’s Pastors’ School in Phoenix. Through that, God had revived the vision of the church. The bus ministry doubled and a soul-winning ministry began. Dr. Morocco also received a word that had changed King's forever. God had said: “Just as the mayor of Maui County is the mayor of three islands, I want you to pastor three islands.” Shortly after this revelation of God’s will for King's, they opened more extensions in Lahaina, Maui and Kaunakakai, Molokai. Their first cultural ministry, the Filipino Ministry, was also born with Filipino churches being founded as a result.

−
On the first Sunday of First Assembly of God with Dr. James Marocco and Pastor Colleen as their pastors, the congregation doubled. By the end of the year, they were noted by a national church growth organization as being one of the fastest-growing churches in the United States, growing to 700 in Sunday morning attendance.
+
In January 1984, God had told Dr. Marocco to see if they could purchase a specific property which was 14 acres in size, on the corner of the most trafficked intersection of all of Maui: Kuihelani Highway and Maui Veterans Highway (what was then Mokulele Highway). We began attempts to purchase the property as it was a property Dr. Morocco believed could accommodate his vision of a church on Maui with 6,000 people. The construction of the facility on this property, the Cathedral, was finished in 1994 and is still the current hub of King's Cathedral and Chapels globally. In 1989, with the opening of King's Lanai, the word given to Dr. Marocco from 1983 was fulfilled. In 1992, the Marshallese Ministry was founded, which began a wave of Marshallese churches all across the United States, which now numbers over 62 extensions.

−
To accommodate the growth of the church, the pastors took a step of faith and secured a former Foodland store that had turned into a skating rink across from the Kaahumanu Shopping Center. At the time they acquired the property, it was the largest facility in the state. An issue that they faced was the financial cost of securing the facility, costing $20,000 more a month than what came into the church. Dr. Marocco knew God's vision for First Assembly of God was more excellent, so he began praying for a piece of property, the corner of Dairy Road (what is now Airport Road) and Puunene Avenue (what is now Maui Veterans Highway).
+
In 1995, the Cathedral held a series of revival meetings with Evangelist Rodney Howard Browne, which changed the entire nature of the church. What happened as a result was that King's began to have a global vision, establishing extensions in Kauai; Wasilla, Alaska; Seattle, Washington; California; Japan; and Tahiti among other locations. This was the first wave of global expansion. In 2000, First Assembly of God was renamed to King's Cathedral and Chapels to avoid confusion with a church named First Assembly of God on Oahu.

−
In 1984, Dr. Marocco's parents, missionaries to India and the Philippines, had joined his staff and implemented early morning prayer meetings from 5:30 AM to 6:30 AM. These early morning prayer meetings still happen to this day across King's Cathedral and Chapels.
+
Starting in the year of 2007, the Lord led King's to begin to have a Vision, or a goal for our church. That year, Dr. Marocco announced the 12/12/12 Vision: 12 extensions in Hawaii, 12 extensions in the mainland United States plus Alaska, and extensions in 12 nations outside of the United States by 2010. This would later be fulfilled. In 2010, King's was in the 120/20 Vision: 120 extensions globally and having 20,000 congregants by 2015. This would later be fulfilled. In 2015, King's was in the 1/2/3 Vision: 100 extensions in the United States, 200 extensions internationally outside of the United States, and having 30,000 congregants by 2020. This would later be fulfilled. In 2020, the Vision of King's was Vision 500: 500 extensions globally by the end of May 2021. This would later be fulfilled. The current Vision of King's is the 12/120 Vision: 1,200 extensions and 120,000 congregants by 2025.

Dr. Marocco also attempted to secure the property that he had been praying for and envisioned to be the main property of their church. A & B Properties, the owners of the land, were willing to sell their land to us, but it was not the property Dr. Marocco had prayed for, but the property across the street.

It took a year to subdivide it, but Dr. Marocco could not have a church built on that property because there was a state law prohibiting churches from being built on agricultural land. Dr. Marocco had hired the leading constitutional lawyer in the United States, William Ball, who wrote a memorandum that Dr. Marocco brought with him when he went to the state capitol to persuade their legislators to change the law.

It had passed through committee but had failed on the state house floor by two votes. The only way they would have been able to build on the land was to have the county council rezone it. In sum, there were three hearings, of which the first two went against the church. But before the final hearing, A & B Properties offered the land across the street to Dr. Marocco, the very land that he had been praying for. In 1994, the property became their new church home and is currently the central location of King's Cathedral and Chapels.

This vision grew into the "120/20 Vision," believing to be in 120 locations worldwide and ministering to 20,000 people weekly. As of May 2015, the "120/20 Vision" has been fulfilled, and grew into the "1/2/3 Vision," believing for 100 congregations in the United States, 200 congregations internationally, and ministering to 30,000 people weekly. King's Cathedral and Chapels, sometimes referred to as King's, is a multi-site Pentecostal megachurch based in Kahului, Hawaii. King's, originally called First Assembly of God Maui, was established in 1980 by their current Global Senior Pastors, Dr. James Marocco and Pastor Colleen Marocco. The church is noted for their multiple services, early morning and late night prayer meetings, various forms of community outreach, unique praise and worship, theatrical productions, generational ministries, and life groups.

History

Currently, King's has extension campuses in 21 states: Hawaii, Alaska, Washington, Oregon, California, Idaho, Nevada, Arizona, Utah, Colorado, Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Missouri, Nebraska, Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, West Virginia, and Florida. King's also has extension campuses in 18 nations outside of the United States: Canada, Mexico, Chile, Brazil, Venezuela, Spain, Italy, Gabon, Mozambique, Vietnam, the Philippines, Japan, New Zealand, the Marshall Islands, Tonga, Fiji, and Tahiti.
