Maria Zakharova

Maria Zakharova is the spokeswoman for the Russian Foreign Ministry. In this capacity, Zakharova is not just a mouthpiece, but a foreign policy advisor, decision maker, and policy maker.

She was born in Moscow and grew up in Beijing. The daughter of two diplomats, she too is a diplomat, has a PhD in history, and speaks Chinese. From 2005 to 2008, Zakharova served as press secretary of the Permanent Mission of Russia to the United Nations and got married in New York City. In 2013 she was appointed head of the Department of Press and Information in the Russian Foreign Ministry, Additionally, she became responsible for the official pages of the Ministry in social networks and provided information support to Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov while he was traveling abroad. Zakharova was awarded the rank of diplomatic adviser of the highest class and admission to the Council for Foreign Policy and Defense of Russia. In 2019, Zakharova said that no one can talk to Donald Trump without him worrying that Democrats will leak something.[1]

Zakharova appears on the U.S.-taxpayer-supported Ukrainian Nazi kill list.[2]

On Biden, Blinken and Nuland

At a press conference on March 19, 2025 Zakharova remarked,

“ I would like to say that they - the people of Ukraine and … the state of Ukraine - were betrayed by the people in Washington, and the way they were betrayed by Washington, by Biden, by Nuland, by Blinken and others is unprecedented. They were deceived, they were betrayed, they were destroyed.[3] ”

Response to Lindsey Graham

On CBS Face the Nation on June 9, 2024 US Sen. Lindsey Graham explained why he was such an ardent warmonger and excited about exterminating the adult male population of Ukraine,[4] stating that Ukraine sat on $10-12 trillion of mineral wealth that Western oligarchs and investors wanted to plunder.[5] Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova responded that $10-12 trillion in Ukrainian mineral resources and wealth would wipe out one third of the US national debt.[6]

On German reparations to Poland

In March 2024 the NATO allied regime of Donald Tusk demanded from its NATO ally Germany $1.3 billion in reparations from World War II. The tension between the two NATO allies had been on the table for eight years under the previous Polish government.[7] Poland had been awarded German territory by Soviet dictator Josef Stalin in 1945. After much wrangling between the allied adversaries, in October 2024 Zakharova noted:

“ Poland is not going to demand reparations from Germany for the damage caused during the Second World War. This was stated by the head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic Radoslaw Sikorski. And he added that Warsaw is thinking about expelling the Russian ambassador. The same Sergei Andreyev, who was attacked in Poland by local ghouls and doused with red paint while laying flowers at the monument to Soviet soldiers who liberated the Polish people from Nazi Germany.

The first quarter of the 21st century was coming to an end. Men became women, and lies were called truth.[8]

”

Response to Italian president

Comparisons of Russia with Nazi Germany in the year of the 80th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War, which Italian President Mattarella stated, will not remain without consequences, said Maria Zakharova.

She noted that these words were spoken by "the president of a country that historically was among those who attacked our country."

Comparisons of Russia to Nazi Germany are highly inflammatory and insulting, even to contemporary Russian citizens.

On US President Donald Trump

On June 18, 2025 Maria Zakharova told Rick Sanchez of RT,

“ Finally, a man has arrived in the White House who isn't talking about other parts of the world or dealing with problems of various population groups on other continents...He is the first in decades to tell the American people – and the world – that America needs to solve a colossal number of colossal problems...This man had it all: Money, fame, popularity, comfort, family – everything he wanted...He was even president...He could have said, 'From now on, I'll live for myself'...But instead, he came back and said he'll run again – not for money, fame, or popularity, but to try to save his country...That gives me additional optimism.[9] ”

Lieutenant Colonel Jeffrey Fritz, who serves with the US Army's Security Assistance Command in Estonia, proposed that Washington consider purchasing the Commander Islands (Rus: Konader Islands), part of the Aleutian Islands chain, from Russia. In an article for Breaking Defense, Fritz argued that these islands could be used by the US to monitor potential Chinese submarine activity en route to the Arctic.[10] Zakharova responded,

“ This is not even worth commenting on, since selling our Motherland is regarded—both legally and ethically— as one of the gravest crimes. But if Fritz has that kind of money, he could make America great again by paying off at least part of the US national debt. ”

An hour after Russia made it clear that the United States would never get its hands on the Commander Islands, US President Donald Trump stated, "Ten days from today...we're gonna put tariffs and various things",[11] followed by a threat from United States Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent warning: "The Chinese take their sovereignty very seriously...We don't want to impede on their sovereignty, so they'd like to pay a 100% tariff...So I think anyone who buys sanctioned Russian oil should be ready for this".[12]

A few hours after President Trump issued his "various things" statement, the Bering Sea seabed near the Commander Islands was slammed by an 8.8 magnitude earthquake, eighty miles to the east of the Rybachiy submarine base at Avacha Bay in Kamchatka,[13] part of Russia's strategic nuclear triad.[14] The quake is tied for the 6th biggest earthquake in recorded history.[15]
