California exodus
California exodus is the flight of many of its best residents and top businesses from liberal California, mostly to Texas.
On November 17, 2023, an op-ed in the San Diego Union-Tribune lamented:
| “ | The fact of people leaving California in pursuit of cheaper pastures isn’t new, but it is getting worse. More than 800,000 Californians moved out of the state in 2022, while only about half as many moved in, according to census data.[1] | ” |
Relatively few people move to California, compared with the national average, according to a report on Nov. 28, 2023:
| “ | California was one of 11 states that had lower immigration rates compared to the national average.[2] | ” |
Oracle, the mammoth software company, was one of the first to move out of California:
| “ | Oracle Corp., a Silicon Valley stalwart, has moved its headquarters to Texas, as one of many technology companies leaving its home state in the face of California’s higher taxes, steeper cost of living, culture issues like rampant cannabis and wildfires.[3] | ” |
Others who have moved from California to Texas include:
- Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla Motors.
- Hewlett Packard Enterprise Co.
- Palantir Technologies Inc.
The downside of the exodus is that the people continue to vote for the same failed policies, thus turning the other states into blue or at least purple ones such as Arizona. Colorado are now solidly blue as are some parts of Texas (mainly the Austin area), while other areas are purple (Collin County, just north of Dallas, has a higher turnout of Democrat voters than neighboring Denton County, even though the latter has two liberal universities in its boundaries).
