Lee Marvin (1924-87) was an actor famous for playing villains in Hollywood movies. He was also a veteran, a recipient of the Purple Heart who was wounded combat in World War II, who is buried at Arlington National Cemetery.[1]

He was the tough guy in "The Dirty Dozen" (1967), "The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance" (1962), "Cat Ballou" (1965), and "Sergeant Riker" (1968).

Prematurely gray with a gravel voice, he got his start in acting by filling in for someone who was sick that day in a theater in New York City.[2]

A lawsuit against him by his girlfriend set a legal precedent for "palimony".

He died prematurely of a heart attack in Tucson, Arizona, at age 63.
