Food additives are used to enhance the flavor and appearance of food, some of which may cause addiction. In the early days, Coca-Cola contained cocaine, a highly addictive drug.
Many types of readymade food, and especially Chinese food, used the possibly addictive flavor enhancer MSG (monosodium glutamate). Though it is generally recognized as safe by the Food and Drug Administration (the agency which regulates the usage of such additives in the United States), MSG has been implicated as a cause autism and ADHD in children, as well as many other ailments.[1]
