Ramallah is a city in the central West Bank adjacent to Al-Bireh. It is located 13 km north of Jerusalem. Since 1993, it has served as the administrative capital of the Palestinian Authority, created as a result of the Oslo Accords and renamed in 2013 by decree of PNA Chairman Mahmoud Abbas to the State of Palestine, which is a partially recognized state by 140 countries. The population: is 38,998 people. (2017). Approximately half the population is Christian Arabs and the other half is Muslim Arabs.[1]
The mayor, Issa Kassis is Christian.[2] The mayor of Ramallah expressed to the Latin Patriarch of Jerusalem, His Beatitude Pierbattista Pizzaballa, his willingness to deepen the collaboration between the municipality of the city and the Church, especially with regard to possible Palestinian Christian cultural projects. Members of the parish council also stressed the importance of this kind of initiatives, recalling their desire to increase the visibility of Christians in the Holy Land, not only locally but also abroad.[3] The mayor of Bethlehem, Hanna Hanania, is also Christian.[4]
