Stephen J. Dubner (born 1963 - ) is an American author and an award-winning journalist. Dubner has written four books and numerous magazine articles. He spent several years at the New York Times and has also written for The New Yorker magazine. He lives in New York City.

Dubner is best known as co-author (with the University of Chicago economist Steven Levitt) of the 2005 pop-economics book Freakonomics: A Rogue Economist Explores the Hidden Side of Everything. The book has sold 3 million copies worldwide. It was followed by SuperFreakonomics: Global Cooling, Patriotic Prostitutes, and Why Suicide Bombers Should Buy Life Insurance in 2009. Dubner and his co-author have appeared widely on television.
