Dmitri Yarosh
Dmytro Anatoloyevich Yarosh (b. September 30, 1971) (Polish transliteration: Dmytro Jarosz) is a Ukrainian neo-Nazi, ex-head of the Pravy Sektor which is listed as a criminal terrorist organization in Russia, ex-head of the neo-Nazi organization "Trizub" named after Stepan Bandera, participant in the war in the Donbas, extremist and politician of extreme neo-Nazi fascist views.
In 2019, after Zelensky's election as president of Ukraine on a promise to negotiate peace with Russia, Yarosh openly threatened that if Zelensky made peace with Russia, he'd be hanged on a main street in Kyiv.[1][2] Zelensky later appointed him as an advisor to the Minister of Defense. The Russians demanded his arrest at the Istanbul 1.0 peace talks in March 2022 as part of the de-nazification program.
Background
Yarosh was born in Dneprodzerzhinsk (Ukr: Kamianske}. His parents were Russian speaking factory workers. Yarosh did not learn to speak Ukrainian until he as about 16 years old at the same time he began to be actively interested in neo-Nazi and fascist rhetoric.
After the Maidan coup, Yarosh became an adviser to the commander-in-chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU), General Valerii Zaluzhnyi. In that role, Yarosh oversaw the incorporation of numerous volunteer units of the Pravy Sektor into the regular armed forces of Ukraine.[3]
Special Military Operation
During the night of February 25-26, 2022 Volodymyr Zelensky sent a ceasefire proposal to Russia via the Chinese embassy in Kyiv. The Kremlin immediately responded by setting out its conditions:[4]
- arrest of all Nazis (Dmitro Yarosh and the Azov Battalion, etc.)
- removal of all street names and destruction of monuments glorifying Nazi collaborators during the Second World War (Stepan Bandera, etc.),
- laying down of weapons.
