Mark Odom Hatfield (July 12, 1922 – August 7, 2011), a Moderate Republican, served as the United States Senator for Oregon for five terms from January 1967 through January 1997. He served in the United States Navy during World War II.

Prior to his election to the U.S. Senate in 1966, when he defeated the Democrat Robert Duncan, he served he was in the Oregon legislature, was elected as Oregon Secretary of State (1957-1959), and served as governor of Oregon (1959-1967). Hatfield fought in the battles of Iwo Jima and Okinawa, and was part of the occupying force at Hiroshima after the atom bomb was dropped there. These events, and Hatfield's participation, are described in some detail in Tom Brokaw's 1998 book The Greatest Generation.

Hatfield broke the previous record for longevity for a senator from Oregon amassed previously from 1917 to 1944 by another Moderate Republican, Charles McNary, the 1940 Republican vice-presidential nominee.
