This article presumably was written by Prof. Jensen. Some of it needs to be rewritten or overhauled. For example, "The prestige of the military became so great that many middle-class males sought to enhance their social standing by becoming officers in the reserves." Actually, affirmative action for non-titled officers was implemented during the Weimar Republic. Prior to WWI, only the titled nobility served as officers (I suppose the loop-hole here is using the phrase, "reserve officers". Nonetheless, it still uses Marxist rhetoric ("middle class" or bourgeoise) to make the claim. RobS^{Recovering Republican} 23:14, December 14, 2025 (EST)
