Some writers have advanced the idea that the game of life proves that intelligent design is wrong, but I think there must be an error in that reasoning. Could it not be that the accidental discovery of the glider gun proves that the system whereby such a thing is possible was created by a designer with human-level intelligence?

Conway's game was indeed devised by Conway. The program did not come into being at random, but was designed and coded by him. He created the rules, included the emotional aspects ("lonely without enough neighbors").

I see - rather than disprove of ID - a resemblance between Conway and the Creator.
