Talk:Essay: Godless Britain is the fat man of Europe
Oh c'mon Cons!
Britain may be fatter than Europe but it's skinnier than America. The problem with Britain is it is far more susceptible to US culture than European countries. As an Australian who has spent time living in France and in England it is obvious. Australia's obesity crisis started with the proliferation of American fast food outlets like KFC and Maccas in the country. And Coke. And Pepsi. None of this has anything to do with over a third of Brits believing in God. AlanE (talk) 01:50, 4 March 2016 (EST)
- Far more susceptible to American culture? A recent study published in the Obesity Reviews journal, found that Chinese teenagers' rate of diabetes was four times that of their American peers.[5]. See: China and obesity
- Last time I checked, the godless Chinese communist spoke mostly Chinese and not English! Abd Chinese culture is far older than British culture.
- In the United States at the present time, the greater the degree of irreligiosity in a generation, the higher their obesity rate is (See: Irreligion/religion, recent generations in the United States and obesity). Conservative (talk) 02:31, 4 March 2016 (EST)
- Cons; you're reading other people's opinions again. That's all you do. You sit there and find someone you agree with. Chinese diabetics have not one wit to do with what I was talking about. And tell me the average weight of a Southern Babtist Choir. Go to a "supermarket" in central Somerset, England, and one near Pontivy in central Brittany, France, and you will know what I mean. AlanE (talk) 03:03, 4 March 2016 (EST)
- So diabetes has nothing to do with obesity? Fat chance my godless, Australian friend!
- If only we didn't live in a multivariable world! Anglicans are high church and Baptist are low church. A higher socioeconomic status in the west is positively correlated to a lower rate of obesity. The cards have been dealt and my 4 obese, evolutionist loving, English Anglicans beats your pair of obese Baptists! Next time, use regression analysis and a well-designed study to control variables.
- Next, you should thank God everyday that you are merely an agnostic and atheist poseur and not a bona fide atheist! See: Atheism and obesity
- Atheism, as defined by the Stanford Encyclopedia of Philosophy, the Routledge Encyclopedia of Philosophy, and other philosophy reference works, is the denial of the existence of God. See: Definition of atheism.
- By the way, where do people go to lose weight? The Young Man Christian Association gym (YMCA) or an atheist gym? "Atheism gym" are two words that don't go together! See: Sports performance: Religious faith vs. atheism. Conservative (talk) 03:44, 4 March 2016 (EST)
An important reminder to AlanE
In 2005, there were four times as many non-Western World Christians as there were Western World Christians.[1]
The traditional African diet is healthier than many Western World invividuals' diets and Africa has some of the lowest obesity rates in the world.[2][3] In recent years, Christianity has seen a rapid growth in Africa.[4] See: Global atheism and Atheist population
On the other hand, atheism is mainly concentrate in secular Europe and China/East Asia (see: Atheist Population). See also: Secular Europe and obesity and China and obesity
Exhibit 2: Australian young earth creationist Philip Raynent's dog
Once again, a like kind produces a like kind!

I have known Christians with thin ones. I have known Church-going people who keep their pets in degrading conditions and non-believers who go out of their way to help and protect animals. Once again you talk from behind your computer, not having a clue about the real world
Yes. Phil's dog is um trim. He could do with an extra pound or so, though. Like most of his type he would spend most of his time barking at things which would keep the weight down. Melbourne's recent inclement weather would not have helped. (Please Cons. Don't talk domestic cats and dogs with me. Believe me, you can't win.) AlanE (talk) 04:47, 4 March 2016 (EST)
- AlanE, three words: Atheism and bestiality!!!!! In 2014, a global news channel which broadcasts documentaries about current topics, reported concerning secular Europe: "Bestiality is having a weird renaissance in Europe."[6]See also: Bestiality and secular Europe and Bestiality and various geographic areas Conservative (talk) 07:02, 4 March 2016 (EST)
- You lost me Cons, with your inexcusably bad taste introduction of Bestiality into the discussion. Perhaps it's my fault. I mentioned "cats and dogs" and your febrile mind goes "ah! I can bring Bestiality into this". Pathetic little man! AlanE (talk) 22:04, 5 March 2016 (EST)
- And by the way (he says, trying to keep himself calm) if you want to call Britain and Australia and others "secular" instead of "Godless" then it's alright with me. AlanE (talk) 22:22, 5 March 2016 (EST)
- AlanE, you brought up the issue of how unbelievers/believers treatment of animals and did so in a vague manner that wasn't very useful as a means of comparison (you did not cite historical data, statistics, etc.). On the other hand, I cited historical data along with a news report of a news organization that specializes in documentaries. If you are going to label anything pathetic, you should go where the evidence leads and label the behavior of atheistic societies pathetic (see also: Atheist population and immorality). Hilarious Essay
Now, I'm waiting for the essays Christian Arkansas is the fat man of America (it is the fattest state, but is is tied with North Carolina on 7th place for weekly church attendances...) Or perhaps Godless Vermont is one of the slimmest states of America (the most "godless" state by some measures, but only 46th most obese...)

Perhaps you should look into "Atheism and Hedonism".

- Wealth is positively correlated with lower obesity (better food, etc. etc.) so no surprises as far as city list. Also, since Christianities inception, it has often appealed to the poor.
- But we do know that religious people, all other things remaining equal, are more likely to engage in healthy behaviors and have better health outcomes when treated by the medical profession. See: Atheism and health
- More importantly, you are completely ignoring the fact that most Christians live outside the Western World and often in areas with low obesity rates. And the two areas where godlessness is most prevalent - Europe/China - both have significant obesity issues. For example, many obese atheists, no doubt eat too much strudel and drink too much beverages out of their beer steins. I recall that Sgt. Schultz, who was no doubt an evolutionist, was quite fond of strudel, Herr August!
- So the hilarious matter is your feeble rebuttal. Conservative (talk) 19:30, 4 March 2016 (EST)
- "Wealth is positively correlated with lower obesity (better food, etc. etc.) so no surprises as far as city list" So, the wealthier you are, the less Christian you become? BTW, that's only true for Europe and the U.S.
- "Also, since Christianities inception, it has often appealed to the poor." To the fat poor in the U.S. and to the slim poor everywhere else?
- "But we do know that religious people, all other things remaining equal, are more likely to engage in healthy behaviors and have better health outcomes when treated by the medical profession" No, we don't know this. The Amish are a quite unhealthy bunch, and the most religious states in the U.S. tend to be the most obese... (isn't that your argument, that you can somehow connect obesity and Godliness?)
- "More importantly, you are completely ignoring the fact that most Christians live outside the Western World and often in areas with low obesity rates." I beg your pardon? You are the one who invoked the ceteris paribus ("all other things remaining equal") A poor American tends to be fat, a poor African tends to be slim. You seem to try to proof that atheism is a rich man's game...
- "And the two areas where godlessness is most prevalent - Europe/China - both have significant obesity issues." Yes. Europe (and to a certain extant China) have significant obesity issues. But they have fewer obesity issues than the more religious U.S. (even the U.K. - heck, even Scotland!) And in Europe, the most atheistic states (Sweden, the Netherlands) aren't the most obese. Frankly, in China, the Christians have more pressing problems than to think about their body image!
- "So the hilarious matter is your feeble rebuttal." Don't think so: the most hilarious thing is your "I am many" charade. --AugustO (talk) 19:53, 4 March 2016 (EST)
- (EC)User:Conservative, as usual, you cannot stay on an objective level, but have to make things personal:
- " For example, many obese atheists, no doubt eat too much strudel and drink too much beverages out of their beer steins." Strudel an "stein" (the correct word is seidl) are enjoyed by German Protestants, German catholics, German atheists, etc.... Granted, German muslims may have a problem with the seidls...
- "I recall that Sgt. Schultz, who was no doubt an evolutionist, was quite fond of strudel, Herr August!" I recall that Sgt. Schultz is what one would call a figment of imagination! You shouldn't get you intel from cheesy TV...

Please examine this article: Atheism and health. I don't believe you addressed the material despite me citing it. Conservative (talk) 20:57, 4 March 2016 (EST)
*LOL*As I have addressed every single point with the possible exception of this article, you should have enough food for thought. --AugustO (talk) 03:45, 5 March 2016 (EST)
- Liberal Christianity theology is often very close to atheism in many regards as they both have a strong anti-supernaturalism component. As a result, they both embrace evolutionism, etc. So libeeral theology adherents and atheists are often natural allies.
- And I know you attend a mainline German church. I am not sure precisely to what extent they embrace liberal theology but it appears as if they have the symptoms of doing so (some of the churches "bless" homosexual relationships, your denomination is shrinking, etc.).
- As a result, I didn't expect you to be fair-minded. I was not disappointed. Conservative (talk) 05:24, 5 March 2016 (EST)
Actually, I offered an argument and gave a key resource to defend it. You decided to dig in your heels so I moved on and said you were unreasonable. I am not going to bang my head against a brick wall. Conservative (talk) 10:37, 5 March 2016 (EST)
- A few last points for the benefit of others: Countries like Sweden, Norway, the Netherlands, etc. have a cultural heritage of biblical Protestantism. The Reformation was very strong in Northern Europe. Culture changes slow. So I am not surprised if there is still a remnant of discipline.
- The Amish are pretty healthy compared to many people. For example, this does not surprise me: "In fact, the Amish cancer rate was 40% lower than the rest of the population in Ohio."[7] They also get more exercise and have low levels of obesity.[8] They are more socially connected than most people. The Amish could eat better fats to reduce their cardiovascular disease, but overall they are healthier than average as far as people in the Western World. Conservative (talk) 10:51, 5 March 2016 (EST)
- You wrote: "You seem to try to proof that atheism is a rich man's game...". My response: "The Pew Research Forum reported in 2013 concerning American atheists: "About four-in-ten atheists (43%) have a college degree, compared with 29% of the general public."[11] In 2012, the Pew Research Forum reported regarding American atheists: "And about 38% of atheists and agnostics have an annual family income of at least $75,000, compared with 29% of the general public."[9]. In addition, although the Protestant work ethic can make countries/people wealthier, there is a positive correlation between economic instability (poverty) and religiosity.[10] At the same time, over time atheism typically causes societal decline which eventually causes economic problems (see: Atheism and sloth and Atheist population and immorality). As far as nations/people, sometimes events happen in a cycle as far as godliness/wealth/trouble: People/nations turn to God in trouble; Their situation improves; They get complacent and unglodly; decline/trouble comes; They turn to God again. Gemtlemen, if you have a beef with his essay, contact the good professor and the UK's National Health Service. Don't kill the messenger!
Gentlemen,
if you have a beef with his essay, I would suggest that you cease your whining to me and instead contact the good professor and/or the UK's National Health Service (NHS).
I cite from the NHS website: "Professor Terence Stephenson in Measuring Up, a report on the nation's obesity crisis by the Academy of Medical Royal Colleges (AoMRC) called Britain "the fat man of Europe".[11]
Gentlemen, I am merely the messenger relaying the fact that Godless Britain is the fat man of Europe. Don't kill the messenger! Conservative (talk) 23:23, 5 March 2016 (EST)
Do you mean Britain or The UK?

Sir Bill Browder
So how do you explain being so impressed with a tax cheat who gave up his US citizenship to flee to Britian, an international criminal oligarch and third generation communist being knighted in the land of the Godless fat man of Europe? Doesn't seem very pro-American or even democratic. RobSZelensky must go. 21:01, February 5, 2025 (EST)
