Sirens are mythical creatures in the form of beautiful women. They live on dangerous rocks in the sea and lure sailors to their destruction by singing irresistibly beautiful songs. The sirens were one of the many dangers faced by Odysseus during his voyage in the Odyssey.

Sirens are often depicted in the form of mermaids, and indeed there is some confusion or overlap between the two; for example, the Spanish language uses the same word for both (sirena).
