Mount Aragats is, with 13,418 feet (4,090 m), the highest mountain in Armenia. Aragats is a circular, shieldlike dormant volcano composed of both lavas and tufas. The crater has become the steep-walled basin of a glacier, and there are several other minor glaciers. On the southern slope are the ruins of the medieval Armenian fortress of Anberd.[1]
