The Mon are an ethnic group of agricultural people in Thailand and Burma (now Myanmar), who are thought to have come originally from western China.

The Mon established a kingdom in Burma in about the 9th century. They introduced Buddhism and Pali writing into Burma but were later subjugated by the Burmans in the 18th century.

The Mon language is an Austro-Asiatic language also known as Tailang.
