Military tactics is the collective name for methods of engaging and defeating an enemy. Through time, military tactics have changed much under the influence of ideology and technology, but certain core strategies remain timeless.

The earliest book on military tactics was written by Sun Tzu, in China in the Sixth Century B.C., and is acclaimed to this day as one of the definitive treatments of military tactics and strategies of all time. Tzu's book is still required reading at all major military schools throughout the world.[1]
