Midlothian is a county of Lothian in Scotland, located in the Central Lowlands. Edinburgh, Scotland's capital, is situated in Midlothian, of which it is the county town. The county is sometimes known as Edinburghshire for this reason. Other notable settlements include Bonnyrigg, Dalkeith, Lasswade, Loanhead, Musselburgh and Penicuik
Geography
Much of the south of Midlothian is dominated by hill ranges such as the Pentlands and the Moorfoots, which collectively make up part of the Southern Uplands. The highest point in the county is Blackhope Scar at 2,136 ft (651 m) in the Moorfoot Hills which straddles the border with Peebleshire to the south. The highest point in the Pentlands, Scald Law at 1900 ft (579 m), is also in Midlothian.
