Confidential Magazine was an American magazine sometimes referred to as a 'scandal magazine' from 1952-1978. At its height it had a circulation of 5 million. In 1957 it was prosecuted by the State of California for criminal libel for its reporting, along with multiple private civil suits for defamation. The magazine reported on famous politicians and celebrities alike, often greatly challenging the mainstream media's sanitized portrayal of those individuals.

When it started, it was challenging existing power structures. Then it entered a period of controversy but shorn of its subversive reporting. Eventually, the magazine sadly retreated into more salacious pictures of women. What its leaders traded in terms of challenging content evolved into mere controversial content and then, eventually, prurient content which was, by that point, ubiquitous anyway.

There is no known archive of Confidential's past issues.
