Mayor Moscone and the Rev. Jim Jones meet with VP candidate Walter Mondale during the 1976 presidential election.

George Moscone is the former Democratic party mayor of San Francisco.

Ten days after the Jonestown massacre, Moscone and councilman Harvey Milk, the first openly gay candidate elected to office in California, were shot and killed by a moderate Democrat upset with the progressive policies of Moscone and Milk and what they had done to the city of San Francisco. Moscone and Milk were elected with the support and volunteer efforts of the Peoples Temple, a socialist group.[1]
