Old Testament vs. the New Testament and the death penalty for homosexuality
Got Questions Ministries notes concerning the Old Testament vs. the New Testament and death penalty for homosexuality:
| “ | It is crucial to understand that Jesus fulfilled the Law (Matthew 5:17–18). Romans 10:4 says that Christ is the end of the Law. Ephesians 2:15 says that Jesus set aside the Law with its commands and regulations. Galatians 3:25 says, now that faith has come, we are no longer under the guardianship of the Law. The civil and ceremonial aspects of the Old Testament Law were for an earlier time. The Law’s purpose was completed with the perfect and complete sacrifice of Jesus Christ. So, no, the Bible does not command that homosexuals should be put to death in this day and age.
Also important to understand is that the civil laws within the Mosaic Law were meant for Israel under a theocracy. God’s chosen people, living in the Promised Land, following God as their King, were to adhere to a system of civil laws with divinely prescribed punishments. The priests taught the laws, the rulers enforced the laws, and the judges meted out punishments as necessary. The rule of Leviticus 20:13, “They are to be put to death,” was given to duly appointed government officials, not to ordinary citizens or vigilantes. The civil laws of the Old Testament were never intended to apply to other cultures or other times. There’s a reason why the nightclub attacker was not Jewish or Christian. Jews and Christians understand the intent and limits of the Old Covenant Law. By contrast, the Koran does not qualify its command to kill homosexuals, and many Muslims see that command as enforceable today. Another consideration is that the Old Testament Law did not allow for vigilantism. One of the reasons for the cities of refuge was to protect those accused of murder until they could receive a fair trial. The Mosaic Law said that only civil government was allowed to implement capital punishment, and that only after a fair trial with at least two witnesses (Deuteronomy 17:6). So, even during the time the Old Testament Law was in effect, the mass murder of homosexuals by a vigilante was not what the Law prescribed. So, the Bible no longer requires the death penalty for homosexuality.[1] |

Christian theology is antithetical to gay bashing

While Christianity does teach that homosexuality is a sin, Christianity also teaches that one should love others - even your enemies who persecute you (Matthew 5:44). Jesus also taught "But I say to you, Do not resist an evildoer. But if anyone strikes you on the right cheek, turn the other also...". (Matthew 5:39 NRSV). And the Apostle Paul taught: "If possible, so far as it depends on you, live peaceably with all." (Romans 12:18).
In his essay which examines Bible passages regarding homosexuality, Pastor and Associate Professor of Pastoral Ministries at The Master's Seminary Alex D. Montoya states that "The Christian needs to befriend and witness to the homosexual with such love, compassion, and wisdom that such will respond to the saving grace of God."[2]
Contemporary Jewish theology is antithetical to gay bashing
The Talmud instructs to pray for eradicating the sin, not the sinner.[3]
Muslim gay bashing
Muslim gay bashing in Europe
In 2016, Rebel News reported on YouTube: Gay bashing by Muslim migrants on the rise in Europe.
Muslim gay bashing in the Middle East
The Islamic Middle East as a whole is not safe for LGBTQ+.[4] Not only in more oppressive regimes such as Iran, but even in less oppressive circles.
The 2022 brutal beheading of 25-year-old homosexual Ahmad Abu Murkhiyeh, who had been living in Israel for the past two years as an asylum-seeker after authorities acknowledged his life would be in danger if he returned to Palestinian territory,'[5][6][7] had highlighted the broader danger gay Arabs face among Muslim "Palestinian" society.
The Palestinian-apologetic Biden administration was criticized for its silence and not calling to investigate the Palestinian Authority. Despite its pouring aid there,[8] which much of it is used for its racist terror ("pay-for-slay").[9]
Countries with corporal punishment, the death penalty or other punishments for those who engage in homosexuality
Laws concerning same-sex relationships vary greatly across the world, from full marital recognition to laws against promoting and/or engaging in homosexuality that involve imprisonment, corporal punishment or capital punishment.[10]
Many Islamic and African countries have laws against homosexuality.

Vernon J. Geberth, M.S., M.P.S. who is a former commander of Bronx homicide for the New York City Police Department stated in 1995 regarding homosexual murders that homosexual murders are relatively common and these murders may involve male victims murdered by other males or may involve female victims who are in some type of lesbian relationship and they are murdered by another female.[12] In 2005, Dr. Harnam Singh, Dr. Luv Sharma, and Dr. Dhattarwal reported in the Journal of Indian Academy of Forensic Medicine that homosexual murders are quite common and that these murders may involve both sexes either as victims or as assailants.[13]
The statements above are not surprising given the studies regarding homosexual couples and domestic violence.
Homosexual Murders and brutality
According to the New York Times, Dr. William Eckert was a world-renowned authority in the field of pathology and he worked on major murder cases including the assassination of Senator Robert F. Kennedy and the Charles Manson murders.[14] Dr. Eckert founded the American Journal of Forensic Medicine and Pathology.[14][15] According to Time magazine, Dr. Eckert was a pioneer who encouraged collaborative effort between law-enforcement and forensics teams.[15]
Dr. Eckert wrote regarding homosexual murders the following: "Equally high is the number of homicides, many probably related to transient attachments, which often lead to suspicion, jealousy, and murder. When murder does occur it is exceptionally brutal with an overkill appearance... Overkill, as it is seen in homosexual and lesbian murders, is certainly a form of sadistic crime. In these instances multiple stabbing and other brutal injuries...are common findings..."[16]
Bernard Knight CBE, MD, BCh, MRCP, FRCPath, FHKCPath, DMJ (Path) was a Professor of Forensic Pathology in the University of Wales until he retired in 1996.[17] In 1993 he was made a Commander of the British Empire (CBE) for his services to forensic medicine.[17][18] Dr. Bernard Knight has been involved in many notorious murder cases, including Fred West and Rosemary West, Roberto Calvi (the Vatican banker), the child killer Mary Bell, and the Steven Truscott case in Canada.[17] Dr. Pekka Saukko is Professor and Head of the Department of Forensic Medicine at the University of Turku in Finland.[18] Dr. Saukko is also the editor of Forensic Science International.[19] Doctors Knight and Saukko coauthored a pathology textbook entitled Knight's Forensic Pathology in 2004 which declared:
| “ | As with heterosexual offenses, the cause of death in fatal cases is almost always some form of general trauma, such as strangulation or head injuries. Homosexual activity, however, may be a parallel event; it is a fact that some of the most violent homicides seen by pathologists are among male homosexuals.[20] | ” |
The previously cited article in the Journal of Indian Academy of Forensic Medicine states regarding homosexual murders:
| “ | These "Lovers' quarrels" between male homosexuals manifest an increased level of violence due to the fact that the parties involved in the emotional conflict are both sexual aggressors... The reason/motivation for the crime is an extremely important consideration in establishing the investigations direction i.e. if the murder was the result of a lover's quarrel or due to interpersonal violence was it due to a rape/sodomy attempt, lastly is it the work of a sexual psychopath with sadistic or impulsive implications?[13] | ” |
The Encyclopedia of Serial Killers by Michael Newton reports:
| “ | Homosexual slayers clearly have no monopoly on violence, but it is true that their crimes often display extremes of "overkill" and mutilation... On balance, it seems fair to say that while homosexuals sometimes fall prey to "gay bashing" violence by bigoted "straights," they are far more likely to be murdered by another homosexual than in a random hate crime.[21] | ” |
The previously cited pathology textbook by Knight and Saukko stated the following: "In addition, quite a number of fatal altercations arise because a heterosexual man becomes violent when importuned by a homosexual."[22]
Other Forensic Journal Articles on Homosexual Murders and Overkill
There have been a number of journal articles on the issue of homosexual homicides and overkill.[23][24][25] In 1996, the forensic journal The American Journal of Forensic Medicine and Pathology published an article entitled Homicide in homosexual victims: a study of 67 cases from the Broward County, Florida, Medical Examiner's office (1982-1992), with special emphasis on "overkill". The abstract for the journal article states:
| “ | Forensic pathologists often state that homosexual homicides are more violent than those with heterosexual victims. Overkill or wounding far beyond that required to cause death is a frequently used descriptor of these deaths. We quantified the number and extent of injuries between homosexual and heterosexual homicide victims to determine whether one group suffered more violence than the other...Homosexual homicides are more violent than heterosexual homicides when one compares the mean number of injuries (fatal sharp, blunt, and total)/case and the extent of injuries on the body.[23] | ” |
