Denton is a city in north Texas. It is a growing suburb of both Dallas and Fort Worth.

The city has expanded rapidly in recent years and is somewhat conservative, but has significant pockets of liberalism as it is home to two large public universities: Texas Woman's University (TWU, which has been officially co-educational since 1994, and counts among prominent former faculty Sarah Weddington, the plaintiff's attorney in the notorious Roe v. Wade decision; the university houses her personal papers) and The University of North Texas (UNT, best known for its world-renowned music program but has significant liberal arts programs). As such, it has attempted to institute liberal policies such as banning oil and gas drilling within city limits (requiring the state to then pass a law prohibiting cities from doing such) and claiming that the city-owned electric system is 100% powered by renewable energy (even though it opened a natural gas power generating plant at the same time). In addition, after the leak of the proposed opinion in Dobbs, both of the city's pregnancy resource centers were vandalized on the same night.

Notable employers in the city include Peterbilt (the large truck manufacturer), Sally Beauty Supply (a notable retailer of salon products to both consumers and businesses), and FEMA Region VI (FEMA's move to Denton ultimately led to UNT creating the world's first university degree program in emergency and disaster management.
