Cyril Smith (1928-2010), of Rochdale, Lancashire, was a British pedophile and pederast who also worked as a politician. He targeted vulnerable young boys in care homes, with the youngest being 8 years old. The sexual predator was described in 2010 by then Liberal Democrat leader Nick Clegg as "a beacon" of the party.[1]
Numerous attempts to hold Smith accountable for the 144 complaints made against him were blocked. As stated by the Manchester Evening News, the establishment were aware of Smith's crimes and covered them up.[2] Smith was notably protected by Liberal parliamentary colleague David Steel, the man best known as the architect of taxpayer-funded abortion in the UK. According to detective Jack Tasker, Smith was never prosecuted because of fears it would expose other child abusers within the political establishment.[3]
Early life
Cyril Smith was born in Rochdale, Lancashire in 1928. The Daily Mail suggested in 2014 that Smith's upbringing with a promiscuous mother and childhood bullying turned him into a "twisted predator".[4] The identity of Smith's father is uncertain though Smith himself believed he knew who his father was.
Political career
Cyril Smith was appointed Labour Mayor of Rochdale in 1966.
At the 1970 UK general election, Smith failed to win the parliamentary seat of Rochdale for the Liberal Party, coming 2nd place.
Smith was elected to the House of Commons after won the a by-election in Rochdale on 26 October 1972 with 42% of the constituency vote.
In May 1979, some of the first accusations of sexual assault against Smith emerged. Rochdale Alternative Press, an underground magazine in Smith's home town, published accusations that Smith had spanked and sexually assaulted young boys at a hostel he co-founded.
Allegations
Among the chief deniers of the accusations made against Smith was fellow Liberal MP David Steel, who is also infamous for legalising the murder of unborn children in the UK. Steel claimed that all Smith seemed to have done was "spank a few bare bottoms". It was later revealed that Steel was well aware of the sexual abuse Smith was inflicting but never acted on it.
2014
On 8 October 2014, Raheem Kassam reported for Breitbart that police in Rochdale were investigating a co-ordinated cover-up of pedophilia by Labour and Liberal Democrat officials in Greater Manchester.[5]
