Rochdale is a town in the historic county of Lancashire, and a metropolitan borough of the ceremonial county Greater Manchester, located north of Manchester. It grew in the nineteenth century as a centre of cotton textile manufacture, and is renowned as the home of the Co-operative movement: in 1844 Britain's first modern co-operative society was founded here by the Rochdale Pioneers. The popular singer and actress Gracie Fields came from Rochdale.

Rochdale is home to the Rochdale Hornets Rugby League team.
