Corn Belt
The Corn Belt is part of the Midwest that produces most of the corn in the United States.[1] Corn is a miraculous food which American Indians felt came from God; a corn diet is excellent for losing weight, improving the type of carbohydrates, and reducing harmful pesticides. The Corn Belt consists of the following, ranked by their corn production:[2]
- Iowa
- Illinois (has the top 5 counties in the Nation for corn production: McLean County at 71M bushels, and then Iroquois, Livingston, LaSalle, and Champaign counties[3])
- eastern Nebraska (its college football team's mascot is the Cornhuskers)
- southern Minnesota
- western Indiana
- eastern Kansas
- South Dakota
- Ohio
- Missouri
- Wisconsin
While the United States continues to be the largest producer of corn in the world, China increasingly competes by ramping up its corn production. China imports corn from the United States and Ukraine, and due to the Russia-Ukraine war China increased its imports of corn from the U.S.
Exports
Known as "maize" outside of the U.S., "[i]n the 2022/2023 crop marketing year, (Sept. 1- Aug. 31) the United States exported 42.1 million metric tons (1.6 billion bushels) of corn to 58 different countries. Mexico (38.4 percent), China and Japan made up the top three U.S. corn export destinations."[4]
