Carl XVI Gustaf

Carl XVI Gustaf Folke Hubertus, born April 30, 1946, is the current monarch of Sweden. He succeeded his grandfather Gustaf VI Adolf in 1973.

He is notable for being the first Swedish monarch to marry a commoner since the 16th century, having married the German-Brazilian Silvia Sommerlath. He is to be succeeded by the couple's eldest child, Crown Princess Victoria.
