Bury

Bury is a town in Greater Manchester, England, approximately eight miles north of Manchester city centre. Until 1974 it was in the county of Lancashire. The River Irwell flows through the town.

The Manchester Metrolink light rail system's northern terminus is in the town. The East Lancashire (heritage steam) Railway runs from Bury to Rawtenstall.

Historically the manufacture of textiles was important to the town’s economy.

Sir Robert Peel was born in the town. The Peel Tower is located above Ramsbottom, near Bury, in his memory. The Regimental Museum of the Lancashire Fusiliers is in the town.

Bury Football Club play in the English Football League Two (soccer).

Bury's population is 60,700 (2001).
