Major Dad was an NBC sitcom showing a liberal glimpse of America's most conservative military institution: the Marine officer corps. A marine officer marries a journalist, resulting in a double culture clash: not only does the Man from Mars encounter the Woman from Venus, but it's conservative vs. liberal, and most of the victories are feminine/liberal.
MacGillis's coworkers are as zany as those in the Beetle Bailey comic strip.
