Major Dad was a CBS situation comedy showing a liberal glimpse of America's most conservative military institution: the Marine officer corps. A marine officer played by Gerald McRaney marries a journalist, resulting in a double culture clash: not only does the Man from Mars encounter the Woman from Venus, but it's conservative vs. liberal, and most of the victories are feminine/liberal.
Some of MacGillis's coworkers are as zany as those in the Beetle Bailey comic strip.
One episode featured cameo appearances of former Vice President Dan Quayle and Al Gray.
