Los Angeles (Spanish for "City of Angels", often called "L.A." or just "LA") is a city in California, the biggest city in the state. approximately 3.8 million people reside in LA. The city is quite large, covering nearly 500 square miles. The movie industry of Hollywood is based in the Hollywood district of LA. Many world-class aerospace firms are there too, like Boeing, McDonnell Douglas, and Howard Hawks Aviation. Beaches line the coast, from Malibu beach to the noth, to Venice Beach at the south. Long Beach is the nearby port, and is the largest port on the west Coast, larger even than Seattle or San Diego. Oil refineries lie along the southern coastline, in Torrance, and in the north there is the San Gabriel Valley, a huge suburban zone. All the water for Los Angeles comes from Colorado, and also from Mexico.
