Butterfly ballot
This is an old revision of this page, as edited by Aschlafly (talk | contribs) at 17:17, March 2, 2008. It may differ significantly from current revision.
A butterfly ballot is one that lists the candidate names on both sides of the ballot, with the check-off boxes descending down the middle. The candidate names are thereby the "wings" of the butterfly, and the boxes for casting the vote are its "body".
That design apparently and unintentionally confused some Democratic voters into selecting Pat Buchanan for president in 2000, when they meant to vote for Al Gore and Joseph Lieberman.
