Don Imus is an American radio talk-show host, known for his "shock jock" speaking manner. Many prominent Republican and Democrat politicians have appeared on his show.

Controversy

An organization called Media Matters for America[1] publicized some offensive comments[2] from his show about the appearance of the Rutgers and Tennessee female basketball team players that some people perceived as playing on gender and racial stereotypes. Liberal black activists Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson joined in, and said that the comments were offensive. On April 12th 2007, CBS canceled Don Imus's show.

Many commentators have noted that far more offensive language is often used in reference to black women in hip hop and rap music.[3] For example, the Ying Yang Twins' song "Salt Shaker" contains the following verse:

Shawty crunk, on the floor wide open
Skeet so much, they call her Billy ocean
Roll, like a 18 wheeler (whomp whomp)
That ho fine, but this ho a killa

The word "ho" is used 25 times in this song, which runs four minutes and forty-eight seconds. In contrast, Imus spoke the word only once during his controversial remarks.

Don Imus was also an outspoken critic of Hillary Clinton.
