Lincoln is a cathedral city and the county town of Lincolnshire. The city has a population of approximately 104,000, making it the largest settlement in Lincolnshire. It is located on the River Whitham, and originated as an Iron Age settlement of the Celtic Britons, before becoming the Roman settlement of Lindum Colonia in c. 80 AD.
It lies 58 miles south-east of York, 50 miles north-west of King's Lynn and 75 miles north of Cambridge.
The north and central part of the city are in the Parts of Lindsey. The mainly suburban areas of Lincoln south of the Whitham, such as Boultham, are in Kesteven.
