The Strategic Arms Limitation Treaty (or SALT I to be more precise), was a binding Cold War treaty between the United States and the Soviet Union aimed at limiting the deployment and proliferation of ICBM's. The SALT I limited the U.S. and the Soviet Union to their 1972 levels of ballistic missiles.
