A Metropolitan Area Network (MAN) is a computer network that spans a city or metropolitan area consisting of numerous interconnected buildings. These are larger than Local Area Networks, and typically service thousands of people. However, a MAN cannot be classified as a Wide Area Network since access to is geographically limited to a relatively small space.

An example of a MAN can be found in Manhattan (in New York City).[1]
