Francisco Raul Canseco, known as Quico" Canseco (born July 30, 1949 in Laredo, Texas), is an attorney, developer, and banker, who served as the Republican U.S. Representative for Texas' 23rd congressional district, which stretches from San Antonio to the outskirts of El Paso. He unseated the Democrat Ciro Rodriguez in 2010 but then lost the seat in 2012 to another Democrat, Pete Gallego of Alpine, Texas. The seat is now held by the Moderate Republican Will Hurd.
Canseco, meanwhile, was among eighteen candidates seeking the Republican nomination for the open U.S. House District 21 in the March 6, 2018 primary. He finished with less than 4 percent of the ballots cast. Remaining in the May 22 runoff election are Chip Roy (27 percent), a former aide to U.S. Senator Ted Cruz, who carries Cruz's endorsement, and Matt McCall (17 percent), who narrowly edged out William Negley for the other runoff slot.[1] Roy narrowly defeated McCall to win the Republican nomination.[2]
Meanwhile, Will Hurd handily defeated his conservative primary opponent, Alma Arredondo-Lynch of Uvalde County, and will face a Democratic opponent, either Gina Ortiz Jones or Rick Trevino, in the November 6 general election.
