Sennacherib was a King of the Assyrian Empire. He attacked Judah in 701 B.C. A clay prism of Sennacherib calls Hezekiah, the king of Judah at that time as "overbearing and proud" indicating that he was part of effort of Philistia and Egypt to rebel against Assyria.[1] The rebellion was unsuccessful after the Assyrians crushed the allied forces at a battle in the plains of Eltekeh.
Sennacherib besieged Jerusalem, but God intervened to save Judah by striking down many in the Assyrian army as they slept. (II Kings 19:35-36) (Isaiah 37:36-37).
