'Tathagata' is the Buddhist Sanskrit term for a Dharma practitioner who has achieved the state of "No More Learning" (meaning Nirvana) in the Mahayana or "Great Vehicle" or "Buddha vehicle" tradition of Buddhism. Tathagata is the fruition of the ultimate fulfillment of the Bodhisattva yana.

More simply, it refers to an epithet for a Buddha, more particularly, the Buddha Shakyamuni. It literally means 'One Thus Gone' or 'Thus Come One'.
