Deterrence is the disincentive to commit a crime based on the amount of punishment that someone convicted of that crime will receive.
Deterrence is cited as a justification for the death penalty.
Among the Founding Fathers, American conservatives, libertarians and veterans, patriots, preppers and gun enthusiasts the unalienable rights of the Second Amendment act as the primary deterrence against big government Nanny state-Police state tyranny. Thus the slogan of Molon labe laconically represents that deterrence.
